Running for Readers

Three cheers for Jessi Colund, a Genzyme Reading Buddy for the past three semesters, who will be running the Rock ‘n’ Roll Providence Half Marathon on August 19th, with the goal of raising $500 for Cambridge School Volunteers (CSV).

Jessi, along with the Genzyme Running Team, a group of employees who are passionate about running together for causes that matter to Genzyme, will be holding several events prior to the race to raise money from sponsors. Cambridge School Volunteers is grateful to her, not only for her hours of service providing literacy support to first graders at the Fletcher-Maynard Academy, but also for taking on a challenging race to further benefit CSV.

Jessi’s experience as a Reading Buddy is the motivation behind the upcoming run. As she describes, “The students get so excited to have a group of adults from Genzyme read with them during one lunch hour per week; they ask such great questions about the books and many discover the joy of reading. Reading Buddies is exactly the type of program the Genzyme Running Team loves to support because it fosters meaningful connections between people and inspires and improves people’s lives”.

Jessi is looking forward to both the challenges of fundraising for a cause she believes in and training for the longest race she’s ever run. CSV extends its deepest appreciation to her and the Genzyme Running Team.  Jessi gratefully accepts donations to her run online here.
