supporting Cambridge public school students

NetPals and Reading Buddies

CSV’s corporate volunteer programs in the Cambridge Public Schools provide a way for companies to have their employees volunteer together throughout the school year.

We welcome inquiries from new prospective corporate partners for our NetPals and Reading Buddies. Corporate partners may also send teams of volunteers to a school near their building where CSV operates an after-school Learning Center once a week.

Volunteers from local companies partner with Upper School students in Grade 7.  Mentors and students share a variety of assignments through weekly emails. The volunteers act as coaches by asking open-ended questions and encouraging students to edit and improve their work. NetPals introduces students to careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.  Students and mentors meet in person several times a year in the workplace and at school. Teachers provide support and oversight.

Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies pairs corporate volunteers with first-, second-, or third-graders to read aloud weekly or biweekly, usually during the volunteers’ lunch hour.
