Genzyme/FMA Reading Buddies Celebrate Books at a Winter Picnic!

Here, Reading Buddy Dan Leonard (pictured left top) and Pam Agner (pictured bottom) from Genzyme and their student Buddies show off their gift books at the party at Fletcher-Maynard Academy. CSV’s Reading Buddies program completed another successful year on December 22nd as 32 second grade students from the Fletcher-Maynard Academy joined their 32 Genzyme Corporation “buddies” for an informal pizza lunch and book presentation in the FMA gymnasium.

Now in its thirteenth year, Reading Buddies pairs first and second graders with Genzyme employees who read together at the school on a weekly basis throughout an entire spring and fall semester. The program’s highlight always seems to be the final picnic, when employees present carefully chosen gift books to their very eager student buddies. There is always much excitement for the students around sharing a pizza lunch with their corporate “friend”. Managed by CSV, the mentoring program gives young students the chance to learn more about career choices and to get to know successful adults who support the value of literacy and love of books.
