Productive Tutoring Relationships: Training for Volunteer Tutors

Creating and Maintaining Productive Tutoring Relationships with Upper School and High School Students

Join new and experienced tutors to share and hear about success and challenges of working with Grade 6–2 students.

Participants will also learn key aspects of adolescent development that impact their work as tutors and mentors. How are middle schoolers and high schoolers growing socially and emotionally, and how does that influence their relationships and their learning?

Alice Cohen, lead teacher for social emotional learning with Cambridge Public Schools, will provide you with tools and strategies to help you understand and connect with your students. She will also share best practices for engagement, sustaining attention, and dealing with conflicts.

Both new and current volunteers are welcome (new volunteers, please bring a Photo ID).

Refreshments will be served.


Parking is available in the high school parking garage on Ellery Street for this workshop. The garage entrance will be open. From Cambridge Street, turn onto Ellery Street (one-way) and make the first right onto the ramp to the underground CRLS garage. There is also residential and meter parking surrounding the high school.
