New Math Tutor Training – Pay At-TEN-tion
October 23, 2014 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Just as kids must be agile decoders of words in order to understand increasingly complex texts, they must “break the code” of our number system–based on groups of 10–in order to successfully engage with and understand increasingly complex mathematical ideas. In this workshop, we’ll explore the meaning of our base 10 system, examine the ways in which its structure lends itself to the creation of intuitive computation strategies, and work hands-on with games and activities that support solid understanding of 10 and its power.
This training is primarily for new volunteers who can give 2 hours per week during the school day. If you are new, please bring a photo ID. You will have to complete paperwork authorizing a CORI check, and we ask for two references using this form.
